Privacy Policy

Our Core Privacy Promise

Notely is built on a simple principle: your audio is never stored. Not on our servers, not in our database, not in cloud storage — nowhere. Audio exists only as a transient stream during your active recording session and is immediately discarded after processing.

What We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and basic profile information through our authentication provider (Clerk). When you subscribe to a paid plan, payment information is processed by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number.

When you use Notely to record a meeting, we generate and store:

  • Text summaries — a written summary of your meeting including action items and tone analysis
  • Transcripts (Premium plan only) — a text transcription of the spoken conversation with speaker labels
  • Usage data — the number of summaries created and recording duration, used to calculate your "time saved" metric

What We Never Collect or Store

  • Raw audio files or recordings
  • Audio data at rest in any form
  • Audio backups or copies

This is enforced at the architectural level. Our database schema contains no columns capable of storing audio data. No object storage (such as S3 or equivalent) is provisioned or configured. Audio is streamed in real-time through an encrypted connection to our transcription provider and discarded immediately.

How Audio Processing Works

When you click "Start Listening," your browser captures microphone audio and streams it over an encrypted WebSocket connection to our backend. Our backend forwards this audio stream to Deepgram, our transcription provider, in real-time. Deepgram processes the audio and returns text. The audio is never written to disk, saved to a database, or stored in any persistent medium at any layer.

When you click "Stop Listening," the audio stream ends. The accumulated text transcript is used to generate a summary via our AI provider. Only the text summary (and transcript, for Premium users) is stored in our database.

Data Retention

Text summaries and transcripts are retained based on your subscription plan:

  • Free plan: Summaries retained for 5 days
  • Unlimited plan: Summaries retained for 14 days
  • Premium plan: Summaries and transcripts retained for 30 days

After the retention period, content is automatically and permanently deleted from our database. You may also manually delete any summary at any time.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Notely:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management
  • Stripe — payment processing and subscription management
  • Deepgram — real-time speech-to-text transcription
  • Anthropic / OpenAI — AI-powered summary generation from text transcripts
  • Vercel — application hosting
  • Neon — database hosting

Each of these providers processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies. Audio data sent to Deepgram is processed in real-time and is not stored by Deepgram under our configuration.

Your Rights

You may at any time:

  • Delete any individual summary or transcript
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your summaries and transcripts
  • Contact us to request information about your stored data

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics that track your behavior across websites.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email or a notice within the application.
